Unveiling the Hidden Keys to Network Marketing Success

They want to start slow. Build momentum. Then go all in.

Jackpot!
Now it is just a matter of teaching the right skill set and a better understanding of what they offer.
Right? It’s logical, isn’t it? They know what they want and are eager to start.

So let ‘er rip.
Not so fast, Buttercup.
If you jump right in, the odds are your new prospect will sooner or later join the ranks of “Former Network Marketers,” or Marginal Network Marketers.

Why? Because skill building is only one of the key non-negotiable components of exceptional success for most network marketers.

Just about every significant goal that stretches you beyond your skill and knowledge level automatically triggers a self-protective reflex. This reflex could also go by the name of “Self-sabotage.” It is the part of you that does not support your aspirations for greater achievement.
You and everyone else has a part that undermines a greater success quest in some aspect of your life or relationships. Ironically, this naysaying voice mostly has the intent of trying to spare you the bad feelings of trying and failing, rejection, being criticized, etc..
So don’t kick yourself when this part shows up. You are part of the big race. The human race.
This reflex makes its appearance as soon as you start marching in new or challenging directions.
That is why you need strong motivation and courage to stay the course.

Or else you stop at the first or second inevitable major obstacle. And then you return to the familiar even if it is uncomfortable. This is the self-protective reflex in operation.

OK. So now what?

Let’s look at four components of the big picture of success.

Motivation is the foundation for applying the skills and knowledge of the profession. As you build that foundation, it’s worth studying the powerful P’s that drive MLM success—a proven framework that channels your motivation into focused, purposeful action.

Awareness of your self-protective excuses. As in, “I would be more successful if only ….”

Personal growth, which is the result of applying skills, motivations and overcoming the “if only” excuses.

Skills to grow and keep growing your business. If you’re a mom building your business around family life, you’ll find powerful MLM strategies for busy moms that speak directly to these four pillars.

Now let’s apply three of these concepts motivation, awareness and personal growth to the new distributor. Part of that application also means learning to build your network without harassing friends or family—a critical integration of mindset and method from day one.

After the prospect agrees to become a distributor, try the following steps. But before you get there, make sure your prospects are actually showing up—if that’s been a challenge, you can fix low prospect show-up rates with these scripts.

1. Motivations and Benefits

You can say to the potential new distributor, “There is an exciting and challenging future that awaits you. Now let’s take an unusual next step. Let’s discuss all the motivations and benefits for becoming successful.

Let’s list all the benefits and reasons why it is important to be successful – big and little – for you personally – for your marriage, for your family. The more reasons the better. These are the motivations that will be your traveling companions on your journey. You will be calling on them often for reassurance and support.”

You and they can record or write them down for future reference.
And you can suggest other benefits to see if they fit.
Then ask what they begin to experience after listing all the benefits.
This tends to emotionally reinforce the motivation to do the work.

Motivation is the foundation for applying the skills and knowledge of the profession.

2. Awareness of the Resistance

Then remind them there is no free lunch. Tell them, with any goal that stretches us, there is almost always another set of voices or attitudes or beliefs that interfere or resist marching confidently forward to the land of opportunities. And these voices can be very persistent.

Here’s one way to broach the subject of that self-protection which often comes in the form of excuses or reasons why to avoid or delay the journey for greater success.
“If it is OK with you, let’s just peek at what your resistance might be. And we can do this with a fill in the blank statement: I would become successful as a network marketer if only ____________.”
I (Pete) often start with one of mine to help them feel more at ease in doing this.
For example, I could honestly say, “I would be more successful if only I could be more organized and stay focused. My ADD often gets in the way.”

Identify their “If only’s…”
So let’s think about you.

  • “I could be successful if only……”
  • Let’s see how many we can come up with. Identifying them can make it easier to overcome them.
  • Here are some common “If Only’s”
  • I had more time.
  • I didn’t have so many family demands.
  • I had more support from my spouse.
  • I didn’t believe big success was for other people.
  • I didn’t tend to procrastinate.
  • I had better health.
  • I didn’t have so much drama in my life.
  • I had more confidence.
  • I wasn’t afraid of standing out.
  • I didn’t fear criticism. Fear of rejection is one of the most common barriers in this business—and developing the critical skill to overcome rejection in MLM can make all the difference.
  • I had more support.
  • I had more money.
  • I felt more worthy.
  • I had more energy.
  • I had more courage.
  • I had the desire to take risks.
  • I wasn’t afraid of reaching my potential.
  • I knew more about the business.

And on and on. Because most people have a lot of “if only” beliefs you can begin to see why it requires a bucketful of motivation to get going and stay the course.

One tip is to print a copy of the “If only” statements, and the prospect can circle which ones apply to them. And/or add new ones if appropriate.

Understanding the benefits, resistance, and “If only” help the new distributor feel normal and better understood. When self-doubt still lingers, it helps to pair this awareness with a proven prospecting formula to overcome self-doubt and keep moving forward with confidence.

3. Personal Growth

There is an additional important concept for us to discuss for a bit.

And that is who you will become on your journey for greater network marketing success.

Here’s what I mean. Many network marketers have described the benefits of learning new skills which create more confidence and capabilities. They have strengthened teamwork on the home front. And given a boost to their self-esteem.

Ask them – “What personal qualities or relationships might you hope to increase on your journey?”

Who you become along the way may be as valuable or more valuable as increased income success.

4. Skills Training

You have now created a different kind of foundation to begin the skills training and knowledge of the business. By doing so, you have illuminated their motivation for success and normalized their insecurities about going forward. Not many professions do this. From here, the real climb begins—and it helps to understand the 10 principles that drive network marketing success all the way to the top of your pay plan.
